Merry Christmas Everyone - I'm off to Mexico!!

With 10 days to go, until the big day, I would like to take this opportunity to wish every last one of my readers. authors that I love and publishers that kindly let me review their books, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I though am even more excited about tomorrow morning, when I get to fly to Mexico, for two weeks of sun, relaxation, and reading.

For those of you with good memories, will recall I was in Mexico last Christmas, unfortunately I wasn't able to book the same hotel, as no UK Airline seemed to be flying to that coast this winter, at least not from London  so I'm flying to Cancun and staying in this utterly gorgeous looking hotel in Playa Del Carmen.

For those of you who love seeing my holiday photos on Facebook and Twitter (when I remember), I'm sure I will be posting some, but realistically my only aims for this holiday are to sleep (in the shade), read, and generally relax and do not much, while being outside all day, plus watching the evening entertainment and seeing how Santa arrives.  Last year he arrived at that hotel by parasail so really am hoping for flying reindeer this year!!

I do still have one more review going live while I'm away, on Wednesday to please check back for the most aptly named book I could put on a date that is only 7 days til the big day!!

In Madeira in August I somehow read 36 books in the two weeks, which is a new record for me, and frankly if I ever replicate that I would be utterly shocked, I think I must have been a reading machine!! But you never know.  How many books do you typically read on a holiday?

My review TBR is at around 82 books currently and I would dearly love to make a dent in it.  I'm sure you will agree though that the more choice you have, the harder it is to decide what to read next as you know you want to read them all, but how do you pick.

Well yet again, I'm going to share with you the Netgalley portion of my review list, and ask for your suggestions of which ones I need to read, which of the 2020 releases you are looking forward to most, and generally arghh... what on earth do I read on the plane tomorrow to set my holiday off on the right reading foot!

For some completely illogical reason only known to me that I can't really explain other than it seemed like a good idea while I was making the graphics, I decided to split the Netgalley list into graphics grouped by publisher this time around.

Hopefully with less books per graphic if I come back to this post while I'm away, which I tend to do, to look at the lovely comments and suggestions,  I may spot ones that I forgot I had but then remember desperately wanting to read them.

Or I may just pick all books randomly all holiday alternating between my newly formed kindle collections for 2019 and 2020, while panicking that I'll never read enough of these to ever make a sizeable dent!!

Ah well enough rambling, as I say however you are spending this holiday period no matter what you are celebrating, or just trying to survive through, I hope it goes incredibly well for you.  Remember to lose yourself into a book and let's hope 2020 is the start of a fabulous new decade!

And here is the Review TBR - all suggestions and comments on anything in this post would be greatly appreciated. I may not get a chance to reply to everything but I promise I do read them all with a smile.

And a quick note to the publishers, I do greatly appreciate every opportunity to read these books, please do keep approving me and I will get to these as soon as I can, or when I shut my eyes and stab them open on my kindle at random.

.

So which publishers do you read the most of? Which of these are books that you think I should drop everything and make sure I read next? Which of these are you curious about and would like to see a review of?

Merry Christmas Everyone (and a review of A Christmas in Disguise by Katie Fforde)

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone who has followed or supported Rachel's Random Reads, since its start in April, a Very Merry Christmas. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

So long as everything goes to plan, I will be by a pool still enjoying my holiday in Fuerteventura on Christmas morning, having saved myself at least 1 Christmas book to read on the day, and will be looking forward to seeing my sister over the next few days.

See you all once I am back and I'll leave you on this glorious Christmas Day with a review of a new Christmas short story by one of my favourite authors...

Amazon UK
Title: A Christmas in Disguise
Author: Katie Fforde
Format reviewed: Ebook
Source: Netgalley
Publisher: Cornerstone
Publication Date: 25th November 2015
Rating: 4 Stars

When Jo’s friend Andi asks if she’ll stand in to cook Christmas lunch for her employer, Jo reluctantly agrees. She knows Andi will lose her job if she doesn’t, and wants to help out her friend.

Jo is nervous because Andi’s boss is a well-known celebrity diva, who outright refuses to have anyone but Andi cook for her. But she also insists Andi wears full chef's whites so the girls think they’ll get away with it … it’s the perfect Christmas disguise.

But when Jo runs into one of the guests - good looking and very smart Anthony - things get even more complicated…

A Christmas in Disguise is a perfect Christmas day read, when you just need an hour to yourself, to remind yourself that your Christmas isn't the only that may not be going exactly to plan, then take a quick nip into this short story by Katie Fforde.

In a short space of time you are introduced to Jo, who has agreed to cook Christmas dinner instead of Andi, for Andi's boss, and pretend to be Andi too. You also soon after meet Anthony, one of Caroline's Christmas day guests who would quite like Jo's help in some subterfuge of his own.

Jo ends in a sticky situation that is downright amusing, and good fun, and some of the food sounds so tasty.

A Christmas in Disguise is a story about a Christmas day, and you get quite a bit of depth to the characters, including the other guests, and get a good sense of what the dinner would be like. It feels like a passage of classic Katie Fforde writing, and was warm and well written.

An enjoyable Christmas read, to enjoy when you need a bit of a break from your own real life Christmas festivities.

Thank you so much to  Random House, Cornerstone and Netgalley for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.

She is doing this as a sort of treasure hunt across social media, and you can enter each day to increase your chances of winning. In addition
Barbara will also be running similar competitions across Twitter (you can follow her @BCopperthwait) and my Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/AuthorBarbaraCopperthwaite) and you’re free to enter those as many times as you like, too.

It's Christmas at Rachel's Random Reads & Giveaway

You may have already noticed the odd Christmas book review sneak in in the last few days, and you may be thinking, but its still over 2 months away. Well you would be completely correct, however the book publishers have already started to release this years Christmas books, and they will be all the way into December.

So besides me trying to decide whether to panic at the sheer amount of fabulous sound Christmas stories being published this year, knowing I still have some left over from previous years on my kindle, or cheer because I can start celebrating this holiday very early this year.

What I can tell you is possibly as far as early January, I will be reviewing Christmas books fairly regularly, and hoping to make this a blog full of Christmas spirit. If you really do feel this is too early, please return closer to Christmas, and check out all the books I will have already reviewed!

The question is when picking what books to read over Christmas, is where on earth do I start? They all sound fantastic...

... well I know that from 23rd to 29th November, I will be publishing my reviews of Christmas titles that are published by digital publisher Carina, in an event I am calling #CarinaChristmas. For more information check out this page

.. from 1st to 11th December I will be taking part in #HarperXmas which is being run thanks to Books With Bunny to celebrate all the Christmas books being released by Harper Impulse (who you may have seen featured on my blog before).

And before those dates the blog will be a mix of whatever Christmas books I can get my hands on, plus some other reviews, so I don't completely overdose on eggnog and good cheer!

Top 3 Christmas Books in series/or sequels I'm looking forward to:
Top 3 Christmas short stories/novellas I'm looking forward to:
Top 3 Christmas books by authors I have never read that I'm looking forward to:
And finally a selection of 11 other Christmas books that I really, really want to read:
Please note these aren't all the festive releases of interest this year, but some of the ones I will be definitely trying my hardest to get my hands on to review for you.

Giveaway - Win a 2015 Christmas paperback of your choice (INT)

What books are you looking forward to this Christmas? When is too early for you to start reading seasonal releases? Let me know, a comment left on this post will be picked at random and  will win a Christmas paperback of your choice (open internationally, so long as Book depository delivers to you), from this years releases.

Competition closes 31st October at Midnight. Please make sure you comment with a profile, and not just as unknown to be counted, and if you can include your twitter handle (if on twitter), so I can find you easily if you win.

Breaking News Update!

Rachel's Random Reads will also be taking part in #BookoutreChristmas from 22nd to 27th October, during which time I will have each day a post to do with Bookoutre's Christmas releases, be it a giveaway, guest post, review or something else. Talk to @ThisChickReads on twitter for more information about this event!
