The best days of your life might be still to come…

When 73 year old Jen announces that she is going to marry Eddie, a man she met just a few months previously on a beach on Boxing Day, her four best friends from aqua aerobics are flabbergasted.

The wedding is booked and, when the groom decides to have a stag trip to Las Vegas, the ladies arrange a hen party to beat all others -a week in the city of love, Paris.

From misadventures at the Louvre, outrageous Parisian cabarets, to drinking champagne with a dashing millionaire at the casino, Paris lives up to all their hopes and dreams. But a week can change everything, and the women that come home have very different dreams from the ones who got on the plane just days ago.

Funny, fearless and with a joie de vivre that reminds you to live every day like it’s your last, Judy Leigh has once again written the perfect feel-good novel for all fans of Cathy Hopkins, Dawn French and Fiona Gibson.

What a delightful book this is!

I absolutely adored this group of women, as they celebrate Jen's recent and rather rapid engagement to Eddie.  They have all only known each other for a few months, but its still a couple of months longer than Jen has known Eddie.

I also think this may be one of the more tasteful hen party trips I've read about, mostt likely as all five of the hens are in their 70s.

So we have Jen, the bride to be, Rose who was widowed years ago and is only starting to find herself,  Della who is married to Sylvester and still utterly devoted to him, Tessa who's husband Alan seems to spend more time at the golf course and pretty much neglects her, and Pam who's love of her life is her dog Eddie!

From the opening chapter, the view point would swap around within the chapter, so after a few pages of say Jen, we would then see what Rose is up to at the same time. After  a chapter or two, once you have picked up the basics of each woman, it is not confusing and you just go with the flow.

I loved seeing how the friendship between the ladies developed over the story, and also each of their own personal growths and realisations.  And from the moment they decide to go to Paris, the book steps up another gear.

What week in Paris would be complete without meeting an exotic man, spending time in a drag club, rediscovering your joie de vivre, some meals in a fabulous Moroccan restaurant,  a friendly taxi driver, a trip to the casino, a couple of hours in a cemetery - oh and some far more regular sight seeing too!!   A fair amount of the more typical Parisian tourist activities were also enjoyed too.

From quite early on I had a feeling about the upcoming marriage, I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but by the story's conclusion I was a lot happier with everything.

Rose and Tessa's stories are fabulous and I loved seeing how they changed over the week, and the others are just as great to read.

It was a joy to spend time with these wonderful women, and I can't help but hope for a sequel as I'd love to see how they are all getting on with life now.    A fantastic book that proves that life definitely isn't over at 70, no matter what you may think when you are younger!!

You’re never too old to live dangerously…

The gloriously funny new novel from the author of A Grand Old Time.

All Georgie Turner wants is to keep her family together. But with her daughter growing up fast, her sister married to a man Georgie hates, and their aging aunt getting more and more outrageous, nothing’s simple.

So when her brother-in-law makes his biggest mistake yet, Georgie sees the chance to reunite the ladies in her life. And after a little persuasion, three generations of Turner women head off on a very unusual road trip. Georgie’s confident that some sun, sea and a bottle or two of prosecco will make this an adventure they’ll never forget.

What could possibly go wrong?

Misadventure certainly sums up the zany story-line in this book.

Definitely a story where you need to suspend your belief in reality while reading as  this was a completely unexpectedly wild ride.

Somehow multiple generations of one family end up on the run, after Bonnie's husband does one too many dodgy deals, and some really nasty bad guys want some revenge,

I didn't really take to most of the women in this book, but did enjoy Aunty Nanny, who has a habit of not quite using the right words, to some hilarious consequences. Plus she is easily the most fun of the characters and really came into her own.

The last third I was barely able to tear myself away from, as when everything started to heat up and come together, it did it in an addictive style.

Story wise it felt quite original, and the writing was certainly good, I just didn't really gel with most of the characters.

It’s never too late to have the time of your life . . .
Heartwarming, hilarious and joyful – the perfect read for anyone who loved Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, A Man Called Ove, Ruth Jones and Jojo Moyes.

Evie Gallagher is regretting her hasty move into a care home. She may be seventy-five and recently widowed, but she’s absolutely not dead yet. And so, one morning, Evie walks out of Sheldon Lodge and sets off on a Great Adventure across Europe.

But not everyone thinks Great Adventures are appropriate for women of Evie’s age, least of all her son Brendan and his wife Maura, who follow a trail of puzzling text messages to bring her home.

When they finally catch up with her, there are shocks in store . . . because while Brendan may have given up on life and love, Evie certainly has not.

This book is a lot of fun, and is one that I really enjoyed reading.

Evie who is 75 has decided that living in a care home isn't really for her, and decides to leave without telling anyone. After a stroke of luck she ends up taking a fabulous road trip through France and meeting loads of great people.

Her son Brendan whose marriage seems a bit rocky, decides he needs to set off in pursuit of his mum.  So we have a book with two separate road trips going on, which takes in a lot of small villages in France and gives a great idea of the various places.

Their two experiences are wildly different, and as much as I loved Evie's story, I just didn't take to Brendan and his wife Maura.  He seemed like a real mummy's boy and just dissatisfied with everything and I really wasn't sure what to make of Maura.  Evie on the other hand is a fabulous character, full of life and her imagination is wild!

I loved Evies assorted antics and overall thought this was a very entertaining story and definitely an author to keep an eye on for future releases.
