Rachel Reads Randomly - Vote #49

Thank you everyone for your input last time. The results of the last vote were:

0 Votes - The Oddest Little Beach Shop by Beth Good
0 Votes -  Bad Money by Louise Patten
2 Votes - The Summer Guest by Emma Hannigan
5 Votes - Secrets of the Lighthouse by Santa Montefiore
7 Votes -  The Winter Folly by Lulu Taylor

For most of last week I had no idea whether Lulu Taylor or Santa Montefiore's books would win, as it seemed reasonably neck and neck, which is great, as it means I've thanks to you all have read one of those books that I've had on my kindle for a while. Really glad The Winter Folly won, even if you all just wanted me to read a cold wintery book, instead of something that may warm me up! The Winter Folly was set in Dorset, which gives me a trip to Dorset for my #AroundTheUKIn144Books challenge.

For those of you that read my Welcome to 2017 post, I have basically decided I need to actively make an effort to read more of my unread paperbacks this year, and to that extent every other week on this, we will be randomising from my paperbacks, as you may get me to read those I've forgotten I even own!

And just to let you know, the review of this week's winning book, and the next vote will be on Monday 23rd, as I have a busy work week next week and just won't have the energy or time to read and review.

Below is my initial theory for this feature, and then a bit further, what you are all waiting for... This weeks's vote! Enjoy!

I am also awful at deciding what book to read next, as I often have about 10 titles or authors jumping into my brain at any time, shouting at me to read them, and I tend to worry I have made the wrong decision while reading a perfectly good book. I am hoping this will save me having to make at least 1 choice a week, while possibly providing a review to the site of a book you all either love or are curious about yourselves.

So what I am proposing, is my lovely loyal readers of Rachel's Random Reads, select one book for me to read a week, and I will post the review the following week.

This week's random numbers are...

And the books these numbers correspond to are...

Like last week, I am invoking my power of veto, which is a shame as its arguably the book I want to read the most out of that selection, but 17 - A Not Quite Perfect Family by Claire Sandy isn't out until April this year, and January seems a bit too early to be reviewing it. Rest assured it will definitely be read and reviewed in the run up to publication.

So the 5 choices with my gut feeling responses are:

4 - Dead in the Water by Ann Granger - If I recall this is a crime/mystery book that I won from a fellow blogger and not had time to read yet. I don't remember much about the blurb or anything.
11 - His Sicilian Cinderella by Carol Marinelli - Mills & Boon romance, so should be a quick and possibly steamy read. Haven't read a pure Mills & Boon for a few years, despite them being a favourite when I was a teenager!
31 - French Legacy by Jennifer Bohnet - Author I really enjoy and I do enjoy a book with a foreign influence, very curious as to just what this French legacy is
43 - Upside Down by Lia Riley - First book in a romance trilogy that I have all 3 books of, so if this wins, I can predict that I will probably spend the weekend reading all three of them!
71 - Match Me If You Can by Susan Elizabeth Phillips - I remember buying this in Foyles along with a Lucy Lawrie paperback, but in terms of anything specific about the book that may influence your voting, my mind is blank!

Please remember that it doesn't matter if you have never heard of any of these authors or books, go with your gut feelings when picking. Ultimately the fact that I have book and I'm willing to leave it in a vote means I probably do want to read them, so you can't go too far wrong. With regards this specific selection, I think it could be quite an open vote, and I'll probably spend most of the next 3 days thinking about which book I will read if it goes to a tie!

Failing that, if you know any of these are UK based, and want to help us make progress on the epic UK counties reading challenge, potentially go for that those!

Pick your favourite or the one you most want me to review, or just the one you are curious about, and leave me a comment below, before midnight on Wednesday.

I look forward to seeing what I will be reading over the weekend, courtesy of you all.

The explanation if you haven't seen the feature before.

How is this going to work?

Every Monday, I am going to have a post like this, which is going to have some choices on it. I am planning on using random.org to select 7 random numbers, to coincide with my spreadsheet of unread books.

I will from that produce a list of hopefully 5 books, I reserve the right to veto any books, and will give reasons for them, if it occurs.

I will take screenshots and post them, of the chosen books, and also give you my instinctive reactions to the choices (without checking blurbs or any other info about them, which could be interesting as there are probably many forgotten about books on my spreadsheet!).

Your task is to post a comment on this post, with the book you would like me to read this week. At midnight on Wednesday I will take a tally of the votes and the book with the most, I will read and review for the following Monday, where you will also get a new choice post.

In the event of a tie, I will chose which one appeals most, for the Monday review, and possibly try and read and review the other to appear when I can.

I am hoping this will provide some variety to the books appearing, and will let me potentially read or discover some great authors that I have wanted to read but not got around to yet.

@gilbster1000 honestly none of these appeal. First week ever. So going for French Legacy as purple is my favourite colour.

  3. Purely to help your challenge, Dead In The Water is set in the Cotswolds so I'm choosing that.

  7. I haven't heard of any of those, but I'm going for Upside Down as it will help you get down your number of unread paperbacks if you read all three =)

  8. Hmmm, this is the hardest one yet! Purely based on the cover I'm going with 31 - French Legacy by Jennifer Bohnet even though I know you would probably like to wade through the trilogy!!

  9. I'll go with His Sicilian Cinderella by Carol Marinelli. Just because you said that you haven't read a Mills and Boon book for a bit :)

  16. French Legacy gets my vote. Have read this author previously, unsure about this actual book though Rachel.
