Dottie Harris has a knack for stumbling into chaotic situations, gin & tonic in hand!

When Dottie and Henry Harris move to their new house, Dottie’s only desire is to make friends in the neighbourhood. But Dottie, just home from delivering her third child, is struggling to adjust to village life. Recently promoted Henry travels a lot, and the neighbours aren't very welcoming (although that could be because when Dottie first met them, she had dyed her children green).

So when Dottie accidentally hears her neighbours’ conversations over her baby monitor, she can’t help but use the information in her quest to build new friendships.

Of course, eavesdropping never ends well, and when Dottie discovers that two of her neighbours are having an affair, she’s horrified. Worse still, the locals are convinced she’s the one who’s doing the cheating. It’s up to Dottie to clear her name and expose the real cheat—in her signature haphazard way!

If you're looking for funny chick lit packed with parenting humour, or simply want to know you're not the only one having trouble making friends while juggling parenting newborns and toddlers, this book is for you!

I couldn't wait to start Mothers Ruined, after I had finished Survival of the Christmas Spirit. I was keen to read more of Aimee Horton's fabulous humour, to see more of Dottie and to see how this all translated into a fuller length book. And the answer is its brilliant, around 200 pages of non stop fun and antics. There is at least  a giggle a page, and in some cases full blown laughter is needed.

I'll get this out of the way now, although this is set after the Christmas book, you don't need to have read any of the other books featuring Dottie to follow this one. It is 100% stand alone, and works very well.

Dottie is married to Henry who travels a lot for work, leaving Dottie alone in their new house, with Artie, 5 and Mabel 2, and of course the new born baby. Even the birth of the baby wasn't without its drama and laughs.

Dottie feels a bit lonely and tries to make friends with the new neighbours, but they don't seem friendly. Until she discovers there is a cross over with baby monitors in the neighbourhood, and that she can hear things happening in various homes. From that she has insider information to launch a charm offence on her unsuspecting neighbours.

Dottie is as she claims herself Dottie by name and dotty by nature. Just don't let her near the internet when drunk, or it has potentially financial ruining consequences. Equally keep a watch for a mention of her accidentally dyeing all three children green.

Mothers Ruined is set at an incredibly fast pace, with not a single dull or boring moment. It held my attention the whole way through, and although there isn't huge amounts of deep emotional depth to the story, there isn't meant to be.

Mothers Ruined is a fabulously entertaining, laugh a minute, riotous, fun and simply highly enjoyable light hearted piece of chick lit. And its completely believable and I can imagine a lot of the situations really do happen in real life as well as fiction, especially if you are trying to look after 3 under 5 year olds single handedly a large amount of the time.

Thank you so much to Tay (ChicksThatRead) for running this blog tour and supplying a copy of the book. It has been great fun to take part.

About Aimee Horton

Aimee is from Lincoln, England, where she enjoys drinking gin and spending time with her family (and she won't tell you which of those she prefers doing). As a child, one of her favourite parts of the summer holidays was to devour all the books in a little book shop in Devon. She continued reading at lightning speed right up until having children. She now reads with eyes propped open by match sticks.

Fabulous Freebies #1

It has come to my attention in the past few days that there are some brilliant books being offered for free at the moment, for the Kindle. So it only seems fair, that I share my findings with you.

Please note all books were FREE at time of writing this post. Please do double check the price of anything you click to look at, as prices do fluctuate. Equally, this is for my UK followers, that use Amazon, please do check your other e-book reader sites in case of price matching things going on.

I also urge you if you do like the look of these, to pick them up while they are free, for the best bargain, as if you come back later, who knows what will have happened to the price!

Some of these I have read, some have been reviewed on this blog, and others are ones I have picked up myself, but have heard from people I trust that they are good!

Social media whizz kid, May Sparks has landed her dream job. Well, not quite, but the salary is great and all May has to do is handle the online profiles of Z – list celebrities who have the tendency to say inappropriate things. Easy, right? #wrong

May’s clients include an ex big brother star (who she's definitely not going to sleep with #neversaynever), a disgraced TV presenter (who wants May to sort out his marriage as well as his Twitter account), and a woman who once flashed her boobs on X-factor. They're all relying on her to turn them into stars. But they're not going to make her job easy.

As May is sucked further and further into her job she begins to lose her grip on real life. Her friends don’t ‘like’ her Facebook posts anymore and even her gorgeous neighbour, who once seemed to be on the same wavelength, criticises her career choice. Worse, May’s clients start getting trolled by an annoying tweep, who May happens to agree with.

Then May’s secret online identity is leaked, causing her to start trending on Twitter. It looks like the status update is over. Unless May can leave the superficial social media word behind and find her own voice again…

Plus café life does also have the added bonus of working a stone’s throw away from millionaire Matt and his disarmingly charming smile!

One (shoestring budget) café makeover, a few delightful additions to the somewhat retro menu and a lot of cherry pie tastings later, The Dandelion Café is ready for its grand reopening! She always intended to go back to the big city…but could island living finally have lured her back home for good?

“Cooking for nineteen people will be a cinch!” Ever-optimistic Dottie Harris is preparing for the biggest and best Christmas celebration ever, and nothing—not even unexpected guests or running out of gin—will get her down.

But as always, things don't run smoothly for Dottie, and it's not long before her two energetic children, hapless husband and a nasty stomach bug wreak havoc on her carefully planned spreadsheets.

Can Dottie throw the perfect family Christmas (without so much as a swig of gin to help her through) or will preparing for the festivities get the best of her? One thing's for sure: This will be a Christmas to remember!

This book was recommended to me by another blogger, and although I downloaded it, at the time, I groaned at the thought of yet another Christmas book to read. Having just had a spare hour, I thought I would read it, as I knew it was a short story. All I can say is Thank You to Sophie at Reviewed the Book. I loved this.

This is 56 pages of non stop Christmas humour that anyone who has ever had 4 last minute guests foisted upon them on Christmas Eve, will completely relate to.

Christmas Day has been planned to a tee, Dottie even had a spreadsheet, and I think she thought everything was going too smoothly, which is always a dangerous thought. Cue last minute shopping in over crowded supermarkets, toddlers that don't want to go bed, and lets just say an incident with a two animals (one alive, one due to be cooked).

Christmas Day in the Harris household was full of fun, and good will, and a great family spirit. And I think that is what sums up this story. Lots of laughs and giggles, and a great look at family life.

This is the first book I have read by Aimee Horton, and based on this example of her writing, I know I want to read a slightly longer release in the future.
