I can't believe 2 weeks have passed already, and what a fortnight it has been. All over twitter bloggers and authors have been reading loads of Harper Impulse books and reviewing them. To take a look at all the fun, have a look at the #HIReadathon tag on twitter. 

Over the fortnight, I have posted reviews for 20 books, novellas and short stories published by the lovely people at Harper Impulse.

May’s clients include an ex big brother star (who she's definitely not going to sleep with #neversaynever), a disgraced TV presenter (who wants May to sort out his marriage as well as his Twitter account), and a woman who once flashed her boobs on X-factor. They're all relying on her to turn them into stars. But they're not going to make her job easy.

As May is sucked further and further into her job she begins to lose her grip on real life. Her friends don’t ‘like’ her Facebook posts anymore and even her gorgeous neighbour, who once seemed to be on the same wavelength, criticises her career choice. Worse, May’s clients start getting trolled by an annoying tweep, who May happens to agree with.

Then May’s secret online identity is leaked, causing her to start trending on Twitter. It looks like the status update is over. Unless May can leave the superficial social media word behind and find her own voice again…

Just finished the prologue of #PleaseRetweet by @EmilyBenet and I'm laughing and smiling along with it.

The above are my first impressions as I started to read #PleaseRetweet. Although I do interact regularly with authors on twitter, I don't normally tweet four times in 10 mins just about the prologue of a book I have just started. This should give you some idea how much I enjoyed just the start of this book. 

And my enjoyment didn't end there. I kept up that level of laughing and smiling, and engagement with the story the entire way through. I found that #PleaseRetweet has perhaps made me think I may be just "slightly" addicted to social media, but unlike May in the story, I am at least not trying to be 5 different people at the same time. 

May Sparks is fabulous with social media, her personal twitter account has around 7k followers, and she is now working in a job where all she has to do is be on social media all day. However due to the new Platinum package her company is offering, she is essentially ghost writing 4 C-List Celebrities twitter accounts, all in their voices, but to stop them from doing anything else to destroy their profile. 

She is addicted to her phone and tablet, and is continually refreshing all accounts to see what the current responses to her words are. When she isn't doing that she is thinking about what she could take photos of, or tweet for them, and to some extent she even starts thinking in #hashtags.

May is so obsessed with work, that her friends start having a problem with her, as does her flatmate, and May doesn't even recognise a man who could be interested in her, instead trying to matchmake him, so that she is left alone with her phone.

Over my lunch break, I had been reading more of this book, and came across May's school style grading system to gauge reaction to the tweets she sends. And then an hour later the above occurred, so I just had to send a tweet!

The celebrities May is pretending to be on twitter range from the ex big brother contestant who had to leave the house after a rather embarrassingly placed injury, an X-Factor audition failure, who ended up flashing the judges and reckons her breasts will get her fame, an author who is trying to sell more books and get back his wife, after he cheater and also a young songwriter who is perfectly happy not to be on twitter at all, until his publicist gets involved. 

Between getting involved in their dramas, some of which are hilarious, to May starting to feel like she may be dealing with more than she can cope with, and her increasingly strained relationships with anyone in her personal life, you have a remarkably entertaining and fabulous book. 

I would recommend #PleaseRetweet to anyone who loves social media, anyone who loves celebrities (especially their rises and falls to fame), and to anyone who is just looking for a fantastically fun book. #PleaseRetweet  is one of my most enjoyed books this year.

Having now read the entirety of the Love London series, there is only one conclusion I can come to, and that is Nikki Moore is exceptionally talented at creating fantastic stories, that keep you interested and that are very romantic. Whoever said romance was dead, has clearly never read a Nikki Moore book. 

As you may be able to tell I loved Picnics in Hyde Park so much. Between two absolutely adorable children, who I am now sad I can't read anything else about, to the way Zoe and Matt interacted, and how she was making him become a better father and more involved in his children's lives, it was an absolute pleasure to read this book. 

Yes this may be the last of the 6 book Love London series, but they can all be read as standalones, including this one, although with Picnics in Hyde Park you do get to catch up with all the couples from the shorter stories, as they all have common link with either Matt or Zoe. So there is some familiarity, but I don't think you would feel as though you miss out if reading a bunch of short stories isn't really your thing. 

There is a strong theme of family running throughout this book, there is the relationship Matt had with his dead wife, how he is coping with his children, 3 years on, Zoe's relationship with her sister and aunt, as well as Matt;s relationship with his brother, These are all examines in various degrees of detail. 

Zoe only took the job as nanny to Matt's children, to try and get answers and perhaps revenge, after he sacks her sister, Melody, with no explanation at all. Zoe is hurting from discovering her fiancee had been cheating on her, and is determined to take Matt down a peg or two. What she doesn't count on is Matt being gorgeous and her falling in love with his children. 

Seeing how the interactions change as the novel progresses between Zoe and Matt is lovely to see and he goes from someone set in his ways, and emotionally withdrawn with his children to a far more loveable man. 

There is one newspaper article in the book that gave me a lump in my throat, and that wasn't the only time the story affected me like that. There so many nice touches in this book, it is great to see. 

Jasper (who is the child the featured in Skating at Somerset House) and his sister Aimee are as different as can be. Aimee is a quiet child who is never happier than with her head in her book, and she reads some very advanced books for only seven years old, and then Jasper is a loveable bundle of energy. 

Hyde Park and picnics are central to the healing processes with this family, and I don't want to say much about them as would prefer not to spoil the plot, but lets just say there is a very good reason this lovely story is called Picnics in Hyde Park.

Book Review - Manhattan Millionaire's Cinderella by Sun Chara - #HIReadathon

This is a very fast paced, incredibly short book, with a whirlwind of a book, with the pace never letting up. But with that pace, it feels as though you are getting lots of half thoughts. 

All the ideas present in the book were good and if they were fully developed and the book had been about twice as long, this would have easily been a five star read, as there is so much potential in the story. However the way it has been written, left me confused for most of the story, and the only thing I know for sure is I did not like Cade Sloan. 

I would go as far as to say I hated the way Cade Sloan treated Nina, and although I get that intially he was forced into a marriage, the way he makes Nina repay her debt, moved him even further down my list of leading men that I like. 

There was a lot of locations featured briefly in this book, and I liked the setting of Cyprus for a fair amount of the story, but even though you have characters jet setting around the world, you never really get a feel for any destination, which seems a shame, even more detail about the hotels would be been good. 

I barely got a feel for Nina's character at all. She seemed at all times very reluctant to go along with anything Cade said, but I didn't fully understand her other motivations apart from the obvious of money. 

Overall I found I did like this book, but thought it could have been a lot better than it was. 

Book Review - Love London Series by Nikki Moore - #HIReadathon

Things are bound to get interesting when these two collide… With a forty foot Christmas tree, an assortment of well meaning friends and relatives, and a mad chocolate Labrador, will this festive season be one to remember … or forget? Holly is a huge fan of Christmas, and is working as an Ice Marshall at Somerset House this festive season. Noel is only at the ice-rink because of his godson Jasper, who shows some talent at skating.  Noel hates everything to do with Christmas, with a pretty good reason, but yet he seems to be attracted to Holly, even though they are opposites.  Over the course of 2 days, a few meetings, and some drinking games at a Christmas party the pair get to know each other a lot better.  The descriptions of Holly's family house and also of Christmas and Somerset House were brilliant. I haven't visited but could picture the scene perfectly. It may be summer, but its got me very wistful for Christmas to come! This is a wonderful introduction to the Love London short stories, and as my first Nikki Moore book, a fabulous start to me liking her books.

Everyone keeps telling Frankie Taylor that a new year is a time for new beginnings. She's not so sure. Single for a year, she's been more than happy on her own, thanks very much! At least, that's what she thinks until she receives a note on New Year’s Eve inviting her to follow the clues, and her heart, across Knightsbridge. But who's behind the romantic adventure? Old flame Christian who she loved for years and was always there for her, or new admirer and work colleague Zack, who has the habit of turning up in all sorts of unexpected places? There's only one way she's going to find out… Frankie didn't really have plans for New Years Eve, so when she gets a note inviting her to go to Knightsbridge, after some hesitation she decides to go for it. The note is written as a poem, and will be the first of a few as someone has gone to a lot of trouble to send Frankie on a romantic treasure hunt around London.  The question as you are reading this is, is who sent the note? Is it ex boyfriend Christian, who severely let her down when she needed him, or new co-worker Zach.  In between seeing what is going on with the notes, we get short flashbacks to scenes with Christian and Zach, which clearly get you rooting for one guy over the other.  I found this to be a very sweet romance, and a lovely gentle short story.

So when they challenge him to find a date for Valentine's Day, and he meets a lovely but lost girl who looks like she could use a friend, he thinks he's found the perfect solution. But life has a way of being less than perfect … Will he be left standing on his own on the most romantic day of the year? This is a story about the healing power of a good friendship.  Georgiana is recovering from an awful car accident where she lost an eye. She barely goes out and is very scared of life and of people staring. And then her mum buys her a puppy.  Buttons is a gorgeous puppy and its due to him that she has to start getting out of the house more, and  she starts walking him along Primrose Hill. It is there she meets Leo.  The fledgling friendship between Leo and Georgiana is incredibly sweet and if Georgiana doesn't want him, I will happily take Leo off her hands.  Although like all the books so far in this series, this is a short story, it has a lot of heart and good feeling about it, and made me smile a lot.

Nathan Black is on a mission to prove himself. His family may be upper class and his cousin Matt might be a famous music producer, but he's going to make it on his own. So as soon as he has enough money set aside, he's quitting his bar-tending job on the King's Road and opening up his own cocktail bar. He hasn't got time for love, and definitely not with the spoilt Chelsea Princesses who flirt with him shamelessly every night. But is there something a bit different about the pretty blonde who's just walked in? Bournemouth girl Sofia Gold is reluctantly visiting old childhood friends in London for Easter weekend. Keenly aware she's not part of their glamorous world, she's more comfortable riding a surfboard than wearing designer dresses and towering heels… although she's always had a soft spot for cocktails. It's never really bothered Sofia that she's 'one of the boys,' and that her romantic experiences have been amazingly unspectacular, so when she meets gorgeous Nathan, why does she find herself faking an accent and pretending to be a London socialite? It can't be anything to do with impressing him, can it? After all, she's only in the capital for a few days… But one impulsive kiss later, they both find themselves wishing for things they didn't know they wanted. Spring in Chelsea – will love blossom? I think this may be the weakest of the series. It was a perfectly nice story, but apart from the hot and sexy scene, I didn't really gel with either of the characters.  I liked the book, but I suspect that because I'm a Londoner that has never wanted to step foot in Chelsea as its so far out of my comfort and financial zone, I struggled to identify with the area.  I loved the interactions between Sofia and the two girls she is hanging around with in Chelsea, although I did have a feel a bit sorry for her.  Overall I found this to be a nice little romance.

Sipping Pimms and eating fresh strawberries at Wimbledon are the perfect start to the British summer for Rayne. Immersed in her career as a journalist in the City, she's been too busy and distracted to give men – or other outside interests – much of a chance lately. That's something her friend Lily thinks she should correct, coming up with the perfect ‘sex with an ex’ solution – much to the amusement of the crowd on Centre Court! When Rayne runs into old flame Adam, former good guy who is now all grown up with a hint of bad boy about him, it's a tempting thought. But is that such a good idea, when she knows that four years ago, she broke his heart? Back from travelling the world and settling into running the family business, Adam never expected to see his university girlfriend again. And he definitely didn't think he would still be angry with her for running away, or that she would still have the same stunning effect on him. But she does, so maybe the perfect way to get her out of his dreams and from under his skin, is to have a hot sex-filled night with her? The only trouble is, one night might not be enough… First love – can you ever go back? Beautiful summery story taking you back a few weeks to Wimbledon, with Pimms and Strawberries and Cream. It is the story of Adam and Rayne and how they were a couple at university, and whether or not 'sex with an ex' is a good idea or not.  It is reasonably clear they still have a connection between them, but there was a question on whether things would progress. The paragraphs set in the past show how a relationship can grow from a fledgling friendship.  I loved Rayne's vulnerability and Adam seemed to be quite eager to impress and please Rayne, which was lovely to see. This is a great addition to the Love London series and I can't wait to read the full length book in this series, Picnics in Hyde Park.

Book Review - Eye Candy by Katherine Garbera - #HIReadathon

I found Eye Candy an incredibly enjoyable way to spend a Sunday afternoon, out in my garden, sunbathing and reading this steamy story that was getting me all hot and bothered. 

It is a fairly simple story, next door neighours Hayley and Garrett come across each other one evening when Hayley is trying to break into her own house, after a night out celebrating her 30th birthday. She is determined to start her 30s as a "bad girl" instead of the good girl she had been in ther 20s. 

Garrett is a cop and came to stop the house being broken into, and the pair have a somewhat instant sexual chemical reaction to each other. 

However neither of them are convinced they want a relationship. 

This is a classic will they, won't they be together book, that is full of amusing incidents, as well as fabulous encounters between the pair. 

I was a bit disappointed more wasn't made of Hayley's job as a candy maker, she makes the most wonderful truffles, but despite there being bits about her days at work,  I wasn't made to feel hungry, which I would have expected from a candy maker. 

Although Hayley's candy, wasn't the only sort featured, Garrett was the ultimate in male eye candy, to the extent that Hayley's nickname for him is Officer Hottie!

I really enjoyed reading Eye Candy, its a lovely story, with some great characters, and a cute little dog too!

Book Review - Closing In by Sue Fortin - #HIReadathon

Strange incidents begin to plague her new family, and their house of calm is about to become one of suspicion and fear. Who can be trusted? Who is the target? Who is closing in?

Closing In completely gave me the creeps, the thought that someone is watching your every move and is determined to not only scare you, but also the family you are working for is terrifying. Sue Fortin has managed to create a novel full of suspense, romance, a cute child and a lot of twists. 

Helen escaped a bad relationship, has left everything she knows behind her, and even changed her name in an attempt to get away from her ex. The only contact she still has with her old life is with her best friend Kate. 

Ellen gets a job a live-in nanny for Donovan, who is a criminal psychologist and is working on an interesting case himself, and his 8 year old daughter Izzy. Izzy is a loveable child, who warms quite fast to Ellen. 

However before long there is a series of strange incidents which leaves both Ellen and Donovan jumpy. They don't know which is being targeted, Ellen by her ex, or Donovan by a criminal he has dealt with in the past, but they are both wary of the situation. 

There is a lot of drama and suspense in this book, and I had a really weird feeling the entire time I was reading it, which I think was nerves for Ellen and Donovan. We would occasionally get looks at the protagonist movements, and thoughts, and there are other hints in there which made me wonder if the other members of Donovan's staff could be completely trusted. 

This is the second book I have read by Sue Fortin and with both of them I have been incredibly impressed with how Sue can hold her readers attention throughout the book, and at the psychological affect she can have on her readers. 

Closing In is a fabulous romantic suspense novel that will keep you guessing, and had my adrenalin pumping towards the end.

Neither of them know what really happened on 5 September 2005 and as events are slowly revealed can anyone cope with the truth? 

Another brilliant book by Mandy Baggot. I was hooked right from the start, and barely put my kindle down until I had completed reading this wonderful story. It was a very enjoyable read, and all I wanted to know was what happened between Emma and Guy in the past. 

Eight years ago, Emma was on holiday on a campsite in France, while grieving for her recently deceased mother, she meets Guy Duval. They have an intense romance until he breaks her heart. 

Fast forward Eight years, and Emma  is an English teacher, mother to Dominic, and in a relationship with Chris. Guy however is now an international footballer and signs for Emma's local club. He also agrees to cut the ribbon in Emma's best fried Ally's new Health and Wellness centre. Within minutes they are clearly back in each other's thoughts and there is still a clear connection between them.

With the story told both in the present and the past, we are told of an intense love affair between Emma and Guy, but they are also both hiding things about what happened in France all those years ago.  There are also chapters that focus on Guy's current life, and when some of the past catches up with him, you get a hint at what he is hiding. 

With the scenes set on the campsite, I had a real sense of what the site was like, complete with facilites and despite not being a fan of camping, I would have loved to have been there myself. 

I found Do You Remember to be a fabulous love story between two people who seemed clearly destined to be with each other. There are many ups and downs during the book, but one thing is for sure, I was enjoying every second of this. 

I have now read two of Mandy's books within a few months, and still can't believe I hadn't truly discovered this author before this year, despite having some of her books on my kindle. I am greatly looking forward to catching up with the rest of her back catalogue, as if this is a good sample of her work, then I'm sure the rest are excellent stories too.

Ten years later Magenta now a fashion stylist, is asked to style the brothers for some promotional work in Boston. And so she is reunited with Alex for the first. As the story progresses it is clear that both of them have had the same thoughts over the years, of was the other their "one". 

There is a lot of, what if's in this book, but there is also a lovely story dealing with artificial insemination and the true meaning of what it is to be a parent. 

Unfortunately I just did't completely gel with the book, I thought it was enjoyable, but I found myself getting far more distracted by my surroundings reading this, than I have done for ages, which to me is proof that it isn't quite the book for me. 

There are some lovely descriptions and some very entertaining scenes, and it is a sweet romance, with some fabulous chemistry.

After getting terribly lost searching for love in all the wrong places, Amalia finds herself asking – what happens to men when they move to Manhattan?!

I found this book to firstly have a ridiculously long title, but generally to be a quick and easy read, that was amusing and enjoyable, but that had no depth to it.

 I found Amalia to be a likeable character, who had a bad breakup with a boyfriend, and then shortly after declares herself to be in love with one of her other friends. She is a graduate student, and this books takes place over a university year. 

She has plenty of friends, none of which seem to be having a great time with men, but I didn't overly feel attached to any of the characters. I am very curious as to whether if I read the next book in this series, whether I would feel more involved with the book, just due to character familiarity. 

If you want a nice simple romance, that is a relatively short but effective story, then this is worth a look.
