Guest Post & Giveaway - Lady P does Christmas by Nicola May - #CuteChristmas

‘Cali big tits, Cali big tits.’

‘Lady P! Not today please, there’s too much to do!’ Cali Summers threw a strand of silver tinsel towards her pet’s cage. ‘And, if you dare start saying that in front of my mother on Christmas Day.’

‘No, no, no, no, no, no,’ the African grey parrot shrieked and starting diving around her large cage.
Cali laughed. ‘What? Is silver not your colour?’

***
So, that’s my owner, Cali Summers;  30’ish, prettyish, kind, caring, straightforward and naive where men are concerned.

She pretends she’s cross with me most of the time, but I know she loves me really. Fresh food and water every day proves that, and when she’s sad she talks to me too. On and on and on she goes. About her husband leaving her for Bella Bitch, their personal trainer and then boring me about her job as an Events Manager in a hotel.

And, when it’s not that,  I tell you, she  makes my claws curl with some of the things she’s got up to with men in this flat. It’s since she’s been part of this Tinder dating internet lark, you see. She’s gone a bit crazy with it. And, it’s a good job I can use my discretion sometimes and keep me beak shut or her mother would definitely have a funny turn.

So, despite trying very hard to meet someone to spend Christmas with, it hasn’t happened yet? So, we are spending it this year with her mum, dad, brother, his vile wife Petra and their even viler dog, Snoop, who does nothing but terrorise me for the whole day. I am going to peck his nose off this year so help him, if he dares winds me up.

I don’t like it when she’s sad though. That’s when I have to throw out the ‘I love you Callerina card.’ That makes her smile and when Cali’s happy, I’m happy.

Ooh she’s unloading her bags now, any cuttle fish in there, love? I mean it is Christmas. Here come the mince pies, she loves mince pies. And, sherry. People laugh at her because she likes sherry. I shout ‘wanker’ if they do that. I don’t like them laughing at her.

‘Look what I’ve got for you.’ Cali rustled about in the bag.

‘Get ’em out! Get ’em out!’

‘Lady P, I’ve warned you.’

Ha, ha I knew that would wind her up. But look, banana chips and fruit cup jellies. Yes, perlease...

Raising a glass of sherry, Cali places a couple of the treats in the bottom of her errant bird’s cage.

‘Cheers, Lady P and Happy Christmas to you.’

The African grey cocks her head to the side nonchalantly. ‘Jingle Balls, jingle balls, jingle all the way.’

You too can read more about Cali and Lady’s P’s antics in Nicola’s eighth novel, Love Me Tinder; available to download now with the Paperback release on Valentine’s Day.

Her Christmas novella, Christmas Evie won an award for the Best Author Read at the 2013 Festival of Romance and is also available to download now.

Guest Post - A Winning Post by Nicola May - Booklympics

I won’t deny I love watching a sportsman in action.

Many a rugby players’ firm thigh and a diver’s six pack have turned my head, but given the choice I’d rather a petite, honed and toned jockey in colourful racing silks any day.

Being born and bred in Ascot, a small town synonymous with the famous Royal Ascot Week, (an annual race meeting where the Queen attends every day), horse racing is in my blood.

I attend as many race meetings at Ascot as I can and l just adore the whole experience. From seeing the owners and trainers nervously watching their prized animals in the parade ring, to the bookmakers shouting out their best prices to the betting punters. And, then, to a drink with friends whilst picking the winners (hopefully). To my favourite part, the actual races, where I feel heart pumping exhilaration as the horses gallop towards the winning post.

So why is a romance author gabbing on about horse racing you may ask? Well... in my first novel, Working it Out, Ruby gets made redundant from her marketing job and decides to do 12 jobs in 12 months to try and find the one of her dreams. One of her jobs is working as a waitress in a box at Royal Ascot. It certainly doesn’t go without humorous incident, including Ruby having to serve her current eccentric lover and his wife, whom she didn’t even know existed!

Like Rachel, I shall be cheering along the GB team in Rio this summer, but forgive me if I pop out to enjoy the thrills and spills of some summer racing too.

Thank you so much Nicola for this fabulous post about horse racing. I haven't been to the races for years, but would love to live close enough to a big race track to be able to go often. Just remember though Nicola, not to bet all your royalties from your fab books on the horses!

Dull security or risky freedom - which would you choose?

With her marriage in pieces, shy Cali Summers is faced with this decision and hits the world of fast love on an internet dating app.

Using room 102 in the hotel where she works as her dating 'lair', she opens herself up to a world of sex, lies, deception, as well as personal discovery and passionate love.

With a charming F1 engineer, a handsome army officer and her adulterous ex all on the scene, a predictable love match is far from on the cards.

There is quite a lot I want to say about this book, but I'm going to need to be careful of potential spoilers. My overwhelming feeling after finishing Love Me Tinder is that it could be made into a fabulous romantic comedy film, as it has all the elements there already, and I can see it easily on a big screen.

This was one of those books that had me giggling to myself from very early on, and I just didn't really stop throughout. Love Me Tinder is very easy to read, with lots of short chapters, to the extent that you will find yourself saying just one more chapter, and 10 will pass before you surface again.

Cali Summers goes from being upset about her cheating soon to be ex-husband into a world of tinder and casual encounters, some more horrifying than others, and most of the situations will probably be familiar to regular users of the app.

Cali also has a best friend Annie, who she is trying to help out, and has some great colleagues in the hotel where she works, with one of them even letting her use room 102 for some of her encounters.  Cali is if anything a bit too naive to be taking part in online dating, and I couldn't help but wish I could have knocked a small amount of sense into her.

The majority of the chapters are from Cali's view point, however every now and then you will get a quick snipped focusing on another character, often allowing the reader to have a sneak peek of relevant information that Cali is yet to know about. So even though I knew some things were potentially coming, I still enjoyed seeing the various reactions once they were out in the open.

Although I have only read a few books by Nicola May so far, I am continually impressed by her writing and sense of humour. I thought Love Me Tinder was absolutely fantastic and I was sorry to see it finish.

Thank you so much to Nicola May for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.
