Funday Friday - Truth or Lie? - Alan Jones - Month 1 Week 4

Welcome to the second ever edition of Truth of Lie. My name is Rachel and I will be your host, for this exciting new game show. Each Friday, I will have one contestant, and they will be answering at least 14 questions. There is of course one small twist,

For three of the answers, they have to lie. It is your task as the viewer to guess which three answers are lies. You are allowed 3 guesses and I want them posted into the comments field.

Every 4 weeks, I will close the guessing, count up how many correct answers each of you has, and create a leaderboard. Anyone who is top of the leaderboard, will go into a draw for a paperback of the winners choice (open internationally).

Please do include a way for me to contact you (email or twitter or similar), so that I can let you know if you have won.

The weekend after a 4 week period closes, not only will I produce a leaderboard, and announce a winner, I will also let you know into the true answers, and which were the lies.

Closing date for the first month is 11pm on 19th May 2016.

So without further ado, let's meet today's contestant.

Good morning contestant, please can you tell me your name and a little bit about yourself?
I'm Alan Jones, Author. I write gritty crime novels: The Cabinetmaker, Blue Wicked and Bloq.

Please to meet you Alan

Now onto the show, and remember everyone, Alan hasn't been entirely truthful with three of these answers, so it is up to you to guess which ones they are (only 3 guesses per person though).

1) Who is your favourite author?
Irvine Welsh

2) What book do you wish you had written?
Trainspotting

3)  Tell me about any really memorable dream or nightmare you have had.
Getting swept over a waterfall.

4) What was your most memorable holiday ever?
My first family holiday abroad with my kids (They were quite old when it finally happened.)

Some kind of monkey - think of the fun swinging through the trees.

To be able to fly like a bird.

7) What is the most annoying interview question you have ever been asked?
Who are you?  (I write under a pen-name to keep my identity hidden.)

8) What is your dream job, and have you tried to achieve it?
That's difficult. A writer  (I'm trying), a cabinetmaker (I'm a competent amateur) or a boat skipper (I have my skipper ticket but would have to get it commercially endorsed.)

9) Can you describe for me what your perfect day would involve?
Writing and Sailing, with some great food and a drink or two to finish.

10) Besides reading, which I am guessing is a given, what other hobbies do you have?
 I collect vintage cigarette cases.
11) What is your guilty pleasure when it comes to music?

Definitely the Sea, somewhere in the West of Scotland

Thank you Alan for taking part, I will admit I'm just mildly surprised that you listen to Take That, and would also love to fly like a bird!

I hope you have enjoyed this edition of Truth or Lie? I will be back next week with another episode, and in the mean time...
Don't forget to guess the lies, to be in with a chance of a prize!

All of this first months truths will be revealed on the 21st/22nd May, along with the first month winner, so get all your guesses in including for the previous weeks if you haven't yet.

Alan Jones Bio

I started writing in 2003, but it took a few false starts over the next ten years before I completed my first novel, The Cabinetmaker. Despite one agent and one small publishing company showing interest, they didn’t take the book on, so I self-published on Kindle, and latterly on Smashwords. It was favourably reviewed, but reader’s feedback threw up a few issues.

My second book, Blue Wicked, took a year to write and I used the feedback I’d had from the first book, resulting in a shorter, more pithy novel than the first one. I am considering going back at some point and doing a final big edit on The Cabinetmaker, but part of me thinks I should leave it as it is, and concentrate on future books.

My latest book, Bloq, was published on 1st April 2016. Although the lead character is Scottish, most of the story takes place in London.

'A father waits in Glasgow's Central Station for his daughter, coming home from London for Christmas. When the last train has pulled in, and she doesn't get off it, he makes a desperate overnight dash to find out why. His search for her takes over his life, costing him his job and, as he withdraws from home, family and friends, he finds himself alone, despairing of ever seeing her again.'

The Paperback should be published by mid May.

I was born in Glasgow  in the early 60's and lived there for the first 22 years of my life. I now live and work on the Ayrshire coast, in the animal health industry. I’m married with four grown up children, and in my spare time I read,  sail, make furniture, play football and watch films when I’m not writing.

Alan Jones is my pen name, as I need to keep working to pay the bills, and I wish for the time being to remain anonymous.
