A three-tiered cake. A groom to take. Here comes the bride!

After an explosive 4th of July, Lauren Hauser is glad to finally be home with gorgeous fiancĂ© Jack by her side. With only three months to go till their wedding, Lauren needs to get planning. But she can’t even choose a wedding dress, let alone a maid of honour!

And with her job drastically taking a turn for the worse, the wedding quickly approaching and a blast from the past causing problems, Lauren feels like she’s losing the bridal battle.

At least baking their perfect wedding cake together is something she and Jack, as award-winning bakers, are excited about! But when a surprise wedding gift arrives earlier than expected, suddenly Lauren must take back control of her job, her life and her wedding – before she says ‘I do’!

Lauren and Jack are back, and this time they should be getting married, otherwise the title of this book would be very misleading! This is a very funny continuation of their story, in the last 3 months leading up to the wedding.

Jack is clearly head over heels in love with Lauren, but Lauren seems to be having all sorts of thoughts. Add in problems at work, and some panic attacks, its surprising to think they will ever have time to plan a wedding and get married.

Despite Lauren being a reasonably useless baker, they decide to bake their own wedding cake. There are some great scenes where they are tasting and testing various frostings and flavours and sauces, to choose what their cake should be.

Jack does have a couple of very romantic surprises for Lauren, one which she takes a lot better than the other at first, until he explains some reasoning at which point, even I was swooning for him!

There is one incredibly disgusting scene, that made me feel a bit ill myself, and its between Lauren and her troublesome colleague (who was introduced in the previous book), which I would prefer not to think about, but would  have rather the incident didn't then need to be retold a few times, during the next chapter or so.

This is the fourth book in a series, and you definitely don't need to have read all the previous to know what was going on. I have to guess that some things would have been details dramas in the first books, that were mentioned in passing, but I did't feel I had missed out, having only been introduced to this series in book 3.

I can't help but feel there could still be at least one more book to be written in this series, but that could be wishful thinking. Even if there isn't I am definitely looking forward to reading more stories by Gina Henning in the future, as she has a great sense of humour, which definitely shines through in this book.

I found How to Bake the Perfect Wedding Cake, to be a delightful and entertaining, romantic story, full of loving and memorable moments.

Thank you to Netgalley and Carina for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.
