The most wonderful time of the year?

Katie Warham has just one wish this year…to have the best Christmas ever!

If only she could lock herself away in a cloud of flour and sugar at her cosy little tearoom, Crumbtious Cakes, instead of spending the festive season trapped with her judgemental mother, crazy Aunt Gina and loved-up celebrity brother Carl…

But Katie never expected her ex-boyfriend, widower Sam – and his two adorable children – to turn up on her doorstep. She didn’t think that any man could tempt her under the mistletoe this year, but Sam might just prove the exception! And as the snow begins to fall and Katie puts the final touches to her famous Christmas cake, she begins to wonder, could her Christmas wish actually come true?

This holiday season, snuggle up by a roaring fire with a mulled wine and enjoy Darcie Boleyn’s festive winter warmer!

Wish upon a Christmas Cake is a beautiful and heart warming tale, that really tugged at my heart strings. There is a lot of emotion and feeling that has been poured into this book, and it is delightfully told.

Katie Warham runs a tearoom, Crumbitious and is sort of dreading the family Christmas she has agreed to attend. Her beloved Granny only died 2 months ago and the pain is still raw. So she makes a wish upon her Christmas Cake to have the best Christmas ever.

What she wasn't expecting was her ex-boyfriend, and first love Sam to be there, with his two children, Jack and Holly. And what she really hadn't fully realised was the Sam was widowed over Christmas just over a year ago.

It doesn't take long for everyone to see that there is still a connection between Katie and Sam, even if Katie is trying her hardest to ignore it, due to the reason that ultimately led to them splitting up all those years ago.

Also at this family Christmas is Katie's mother Esther, who Katie has always found in the past to be a bit critical and abrasive, her lovely father, her slightly famous brother Karl, with his new boyfriend, who is very sext, as well as Auntie Gina who is slightly mad.

With a gorgeous setting, in a large manor house, the stage is set for a memorable Christmas, and not in the ways that Katie had been expecting.

With both main characters trying to move on from their grief, as well as two young children, you can see why I often had a lump in my throat at some of the situations, for various reasons.

I found Wish upon a Christmas Cake to be a delightful debut novel from Darcie Boleyn. I really enjoyed the story, and the Christmas section although didn't really put me in the festive mood, was critical to the story, and well thought out, given the characters circumstances.

One thing is for certain, it is always wise to have a wish upon a Christmas cake, as you never know when wishes could come true.

Thanks to Carina, and Netgalley for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.
