Guest Post - Christmas in Avalon by Carys Jones - #CarinaChristmas

I'd like to welcome Carys Jones to Rachel's Random Reads, and she is telling us what Christmas would be like in Avalon, the setting for her series of books featuring Aiden Connelly.

Aiden Connelly is the main character in my Avalon series. In the first book, First to Fall, he’s recently left the bright lights of Chicago for what he hopes will be a quieter life in the small town of Avalon.

Aiden wants to start putting family values first, to spend more quality time with his wife, Isla, and daughter, Meegan. With that in mind his first Christmas in Avalon would be a traditional one and Aiden would be pulling out all the stops to make his young family feel settled in their new home.

There would be a real Christmas tree in the living room, sourced from just outside of town close to the lumber yard owned by Clyde White. Meegan and Isla would bake sugar cookies in the small kitchen while Aiden did his best to source a snow machine and give them a white Christmas. Because unlike in Chicago, there will be no chance of a natural white Christmas. In Avalon the sun shines almost all year round except for when a turbulent storm rolls in.

On Christmas Eve Aiden’s family would join other Avalon residents in the local church to sing carols and listen to a festive sermon led by Father West. Standing with his friend Edmond Copes and his family Aiden might start to feel like he belongs in this sleepy little town. But even at Christmas he can’t escape the wicked stares of Sherriff Buck Fern and local businessman Clyde White. His presence in town has down more than ruffle a few feathers.

And on Christmas Day when Aiden tucks in to his dinner the turkey will leave a sour taste in his mouth. Because he’ll be thinking of Brandy White, alone in her cell with nothing to do except look at the bleak grey walls around her. Even at Christmas Aiden can’t ignore what his heart is telling him. Beneath the small town charm, the strung up lights and holly wreaths something sinister lurks in Avalon. It’s a town rotten with lies and until Aiden uncovers the truth he’ll never be able to feel settled there.

First to Fall is the first book in the four part Avalon series.

Author Bio

Carys Jones loves nothing more than to write and create stories which ignite the reader's imagination. Based in Shropshire, England, Carys lives with her husband, two guinea pigs and her adored canine companion Rollo.

When she's not writing, Carys likes to indulge her inner geek by watching science- fiction films or playing video games.

She lists John Green, Jodi Picoult and Virginia Andrews as her favorite authors and draws inspiration for her own work from anything and everything.

To Carys, there is no greater feeling then when you lose yourself in a great story and it is that feeling of ultimate escapism which she tries to bring to her books.

Thank you Carys. As someone who I'm sorry to say hasn't read your books yet, that has made me think that Christmas in Avalon would be wonderful, and with a sense of community. I'm also very curious about Brandy White, so you may be seeing reviews of Cary's books on my blog sometime in the future!
