Guest Post & Giveaway - Writing the Darker Romance by Michelle Betham

Happy Publication day to Michelle Betham!

Her new darker romance Allure is out now, and is the first book in her new Forbidden series. I am delighted to welcome Michelle back to Rachel Random Reads today, and she has a lovely guest post for us, and then is kindly giving away e-copies of her new book, so please enjoy, and thank you so much Michelle.,

As an author I have written everything from a sweet Christmas romance, to more Jilly Cooper/Jackie Collins-inspired bonkbusters. I guess you could say I like to experiment with genres. And with my latest, self-published series of books I've ventured into as-yet-uncharted territory for me – erotic romance.

Those that have read my books will know by now that there’s never really been a shortage of hot sex scenes in them (bar the Christmas romance – which is why that’s the only book of mine I've actually let my mother read!), but with The Forbidden Series I suppose you could say I've pushed the envelope a little but further this time. But I wanted to take a risk; I wanted to see how far I could push myself in terms of my writing, because I can’t just sit back and write the same kind of thing day in, day out. I don’t – I can’t work like that. I have to write what jumps out at me, even if it’s at the most inopportune time. And I was actually in the middle of writing another book when the idea for ‘Allure’ – book #1 in The Forbidden Series – was thrown at me, by my husband, of all people. And that may raise a few eyebrows, when you read the premise of the book, but when he suggested it, I fell in love with the idea immediately. Something just clicked, that other book was put to one side, and four weeks later the first draft of ‘Allure’ was finished. And from conception to release date, it’s been just over two months in total, because when a book needs to be written, it just needs to be written, if that makes sense! And this book – it needed to be written. Because I needed to take a risk. And a brand new trilogy was born…

But even though the books in this trilogy are going to be the hottest I've written yet, no doubt about that; they also tell a love story. And maybe it’s a darker, less conventional love story than some people may be used to – I mean, this is so far away from my chick lit beginnings, it really is – but it’s still a love story, and at times, quite a beautiful one as we follow two very damaged people on a journey that will test them, push them to their limits; even break them at times. But it’s a journey that will change their lives forever…

‘Allure’, book #1 in The Forbidden Series, is out November 3rd. Book #2 – ‘Obsession’ – will be out early 2016, with book #3, ‘Release’, to follow in the Spring.

Allure

Neal Cannon is a wealthy, enigmatic art dealer from Manhattan. Highly successful and heartbreakingly handsome he’s a man who could have any woman he wants. But he doesn’t do relationships. He doesn’t want commitment, of any kind. Instead, he seeks the no-strings-attached company of high-class escorts – faceless women, emotionless sex.
But the one rule Neal Cannon has given himself is that he never uses the same escort twice. And for over six years he’s played by his own self-enforced rule.

Until he books Kira Blu…

Kira has played the escort game for over ten years. She knows the world and the men who frequent it inside out. She plays the game, and she plays it well. She’s beautiful, popular, and in total control of the life she’s created for herself.

Until Neal Cannon walks into it…

Kira Blu has never stayed the night with a client.
Neal Cannon has never wanted to see the same escort twice.
But one night is all it takes, to change everything…

One night is all it takes to force both Neal and Kira to confront the things that have turned them into the people they’ve become – things they’ve refused to face up to for a long time.

There’s a reason why he’s became cold and closed off to any emotion.
There’s a reason why she became a woman who’s paid to fulfil men’s fantasies.

Neal Cannon and Kira Blu – two damaged people struggling to come to terms with pasts they’ve tried to forget, and a future they’re scared to think about…
