Book Review - Frosted Cowboy by Charlene Ross - Back Catalogue Books

Back Catalogue Books is my new regular Saturday feature, focusing on books that are not the latest releases. There is going to be a mix of Q&As and also reviews, depending on what I have the space for.

If you are an author wanting to take part in Back Catalogue Books then please do email on gilbster at gmail dot com and I'll whizz the questions over to you.

I hope everyone enjoys this weekly look back at some of the slightly older books that are about but still great, and that I eventually make a dent in my TBRs as a result of it!

Well this week's review is of Frosted Cowboy, which is Charlene Ross's second book in her series about Laney Delaney.

A sassy heroine, a frosty drink and a new chance at love—what could possibly go wrong?

Laney Delaney was living the dream. She had a fabulous fiancé and a career as a couture wedding dress designer. But after catching her (not-so-fabulous) fiancé cheating and being accused of upstaging one of her brides at a wedding, Laney finds herself with no boyfriend, no job and no plan.

After some serious soul searching, Laney is determined to start over. She embarks on a design career that takes her from a Rodeo Drive boutique to a flea market stall, but it's worth it—even if it means she has to suck up to her childhood nemesis for help.

At the same time, three very different men vie for her attention: a masseuse/screenwriter with an unfortunate reputation, a stable fireman who just doesn't spark a romantic flame, and the fireman's ridiculously hot co-worker whose illicit under-the-mistletoe kiss still burns Laney's lips.

Professionally and romantically, Laney is on the verge of reinventing her life and finding her true passion—but can she learn to trust again and believe in herself?

Laney Delaney is a very energetic heroine, who is a good friend, but has increasingly dodgy taste in men, and is capable of making very poor decisions against her own better judgment. So just the sort of character you want in the main role of a romantic comedy novel!

She has three potential men in her life during Frosted Cowboy, there is Tom the man she meets in a western themed bar, while drinking Frosted Cowboys who definitely doesn't want a commitment ever, but does proposition her very early on. There is Jake, who to pardon the expression, is sex on legs, but has a reputation to go with it too, and there is also Fireman Mike, who Laney unfortunately finds quite dull.

Laney is also a fashion designer, but after an incident at a wedding, where the brides mum took a dislike to her, she was sacked (and there is a bit more too it than that and its really amusing, but I don't want to give away the more fun details). From that she has to reinvent herself and I loved her new design work and the journey it takes her on.

One of my favourite paragraphs was quite early in the book, where there  is a whole bit with what could be classed as excessive use of the F word, but is actually illustrating just what a versatile word it really is, and the way its written had me burst into laughter.

There are plenty of other amusing sections to the book, which account for the overall bouncy and light hearted feel to Frosted Cowboy. The story feels pretty fast paced, and I found myself really enjoying what I was reading, and the way it was written.

Thank you so much to Charlene Ross for this copy of the book. I have reviewed this honestly and voluntarily.
